This photo installation investigates feelings of belonging in and ownership over public spaces in the city of London, Ontario, by new immigrants. Unfamiliar public spaces, offering possibilities of chance encounters and unexpected social interactions, can be at once exciting and intimidating. The process of crafting familiarity, asserting presence, and claiming ownership over public space as a newcomer is a complex process and often difficult. My project seeks to tell the story of this process in the life of recent immigrants to London.
